If the Chamber of Deputies follows the lead of the Senate, Congress will extend the current legislative session by sixty days. The measure to extend the session, submitted to the upper chamber by its President, Ramon Alburquerque, was passed unanimously yesterday. The Deputies will vote on the issue later this week. The current congressional session is scheduled to conclude on November 13, but that would not afford enough time, according to Alburquerque, to fully review the extensive package of economic proposals expected to be unveiled this coming weekend. Especially controversial is the 50% increase in the ITBI tax, and the 2% tax on wholesalers. Next year?s budget must also be debated, and approved, during the current congressional session.
