Dominican press gives U.S. election to Bush

Today?s morning newspapers carried pictures of a smiling George W. Bush on their front papers, together with congratulatory headlines, and lengthy articles explaining how the Texas governor had pulled off a narrow victory from a tight race with Vice President Al Gore. Editorial deadlines for the morning papers apparently coincided with the moment during the sea-saw Gore-Bush contest in which Bush was pronounced the winner of Florida?s 25 electoral votes. By the time the dailies had hit the streets, however, Florida had reverted to the ?undecided? column, invalidating the premature declaration of a clear winner by the Dominican press.
