The president of the Dominican Federation of Track and Field, Andres Polimar announced that five Russian trainers to prepare athletes in shot put, javelin and hammer throwing, steeplechase and hurdles, and straddle jump will arrive on Friday, 24 November to begin training top notch Dominican athletes for major international competitions, including the 2003 Pan Am Games. He preferred the Russian coaches after the positive experience of working with Natalia Korotaeva, the Russian who brought Juana Arendel to world class levels. The five Russian technicians will be paid US$1,500 a month, plus food and lodging. The trainers are Anatoli Sergeev, Serguey Korotaeva, Alexei Btalof, Khanafine Iouri. A fifth was not named.
