El Siglo newspaper interviewed Rear Admiral Radhames Lora Salcedo who spoke on the new facilities enjoyed by the important government department. The Defensa Civil recently moved to new offices in a two-floor building at the Plaza de la Salud, an advanced medical complex. He said that now the Interinstitutional Center for Emergency Operations (COEI) that brings together government and private sectors organizations dealing with emergencies will have ample space in which to prepare for catastrophes and emergency situations. He said new equipment, worth about US$300,000 was being installed, thanks to the Technical Secretariat of the Presidency. He said that the department would become one of the leading centers of its kind in Central America and the Caribbean. Furthermore, he said the greatest benefit of the new facilities would be that the country could prepare in advance. He said the new facilities are a big step ahead to guarantee the nation an adequate system of prevention, mitigation and reconstruction in times of catastrophy.
