El Siglo newspaper reported that Mayor Johnny Ventura gave King Juan Carlos cuff links made out of coins rescued from a sunken galleon. The newspaper reports that King Juan Carlos immediately put these on. Mrs. Josefina Flores de Ventura, wife of the mayor, gave Queen Sofia amber motifs.
