The Departamento de Transito Terrestre (ground transport) of the National Police reports that 579 persons died in traffic accidents from January 1 to 30 September. According to the report, 303 persons died in collisions in provinces, and 271 in the National District (Santo Domingo). Of the dead, 203 were driving motorcycles. As of 30 June there were 1,100,078 motorcycles registered of a total 1,856,483 vehicular units in circulation.
