Spending like a rich country

European Union Ambassador Miguel Amado told Hoy newspaper that the DR has ?no budgetary discipline or any controls on government spending.?
?The Dominican Republic,? he continued, ?behaves like a wealthy country, spending money without controlling its spending.?
Amado spoke of a need for those governing the Dominican Republic to institute a ?culture of control that follows through with the economy according to its projections.?
He said that because the economy is based on services, there is a need to determine what model and activities can be fostered to make a departure from being service-based and diversify.
The ambassador professed an urgent need to ?eliminate the political jobs that are not productive,? and said he believes the agreement with the IMF should be received with a positive outlook, as it will help the country gain the needed discipline.
