The National Council of Superior Studies (CONES), the government body that regulates university-level education, approved an extension of the Universidad Católica Santo Domingo for Higüey, capital of La Altagracia province. The Punta Cana-Bavaro resort area is located in the province and the university will help prepare needed professionals and reduce the number of students that have to commute to San Pedro de Macorís or Santo Domingo to continue their studies.
