President honored by NCSU in Raleigh, North Carolina

President Hipólito Mejía received an honorary degree from the North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Others receiving the distinction were Mr. Ray Anderson, Chief Executive Officer, Interface Flooring Systems, Inc.; Dr. F. Albert Cotton, Department of Chemistry, Texas A & M University; Dr. Peter C. Doherty, Department of Immunology, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital; The Reverend Theodore M. Hesburgh, President Emeritus, University of Notre Dame; and Mr. Vernon Owens, North Carolina master potter and owner of Jugtown Pottery. The honors were granted during the exercises of graduation of the university. Chancellor Marye Anne Fox presided over the ceremonies held at the Entertainment and Sports Arena of the university. In yesterday’s news release, the DR1 erroneously reported that the distinction would be granted by the University of North Carolina (UNC). DR1 readers wrote in to observe that the North Carolina State University (http://www2.ncsu.edu/) is a rival of the University of North Carolina. One reader commented that the same error is contained in the biography of the President on the Presidency web page, and says that most probably the President has not read the biography (http://www.presidencia.gov.do/Ingles/presidencia/perfilpresidente.htm)
