Speaking to students in Raleigh, North Carolina, President Hipólito Mejía (diplomatic talk is not his strength), said that the US can no longer give lessons to the DR in electoral matters. The US government has sent observer teams to the DR to watch over the elections. This time around, the US suffered through much of the same. "We laughed at them," he said, referring to the US electoral crisis. He spoke to students prior to the graduation exercises of the North Carolina State University where he received an honorary degree. He complained that the US has concentrated on Israel and Eastern Europe, ignoring its closer neighbors in the Latin America. "We wish the Republicans change that a bit," he said.
