Two fired for alleged corruption in office

The Instituto Dominicano de Seguros Sociales (IDSS) announced the firing of two of its employees after an IDSS team in San Pedro de Macorís denounced they were being pressured to hand in RD$150,000 and RD$250,000 to the persons in charge of IDSS collections in the eastern region. The IDSS fired Fernando Ramírez, in charge of the Collections Department and his assistant, supervisor Máximo Mendez Vidal. Another 23 inspectors of the department were suspended. The IDSS board also ordered the shutdown of the Programa de Construcción del Departamento de Recaudaciones of the IDSS in the East. Last Wednesday, El Siglo carried the claim of extortion.
