Mejia will fire conflictive officials

President Hipolito Mejia turned some colorful phrases in describing his attitudes toward some of his cabinet-level appointees. The Head of State told reporters he is dissatisfied with the members of his government who are "very conflictive." Others are too slow to act. They "skate on mud," he said, or require "gasoil to start their motors." Mejia said he is conducting an evaluation of the performance of cabinet officers and provincial governors and that changes will soon be made. Asked whether he would announce the changes on New Year’s Day a traditional date for the announcement of such changes Mejia replied that "I am not traditional in anything." The date of the announcement might come on "the 30th of February," the President said.
