The National Police reported that 80 persons died during December in accidents along Dominican highways and roads. The police says there were 277 accidents, including 142 vehicle crashes, 77 vehicles that skid on roads or slid down hills, 43 run overs and six unexplained accidents. One hundred fifty nine persons required hospitalization, and 129 were cured and sent home. Fifteen persons lost their lives in accidents involving persons driving motorcycles. In November 52 persons died due to accidents on the roads. There is a population of more than eight million persons in the DR.
