Circus

Ana Mitila Lora writes today in the List?n Diario on how our governors and politicians thrive on circuses for the people. She says their omissions are cloaked in camouflage so as to mask any evidence of their disinterest in effecting real change in society. She makes the comment on occasion of a document circulated by Depreco containing instructions for the public to be watchful of public spending in construction. The edict establishes that contracted engineers must present their budgets and plans to a Commission for Social Auditing. Nevertheless, the ruling party and its congressional majority has yet to pass a bill that would oblige legal tenders to be held to grant government works. Lora also comments that during the government of Leonel Fern?ndez, Dominicans were led to believe that the prison system would be transformed. In the end, however, Aura Celeste Fern?ndez had to resign her post for lack of financial support. She also comments that despite the complaints stacked up against Fern?ndez, the moral time limit to put him on trial has expired. ?If they want to entertain us, do it with the Pan Am Games,? she comments.
