The government passed Law 86-99 that creates the Ministry of Women. This upgrades programs available to women provided by the Dirección de Promoción de la Mujer. Gladys Gutiérrez, who is expected to be the designated Minister of Women, explained that the new government ministry is responsible for establishing norms and executing policies to promote gender equity and full exercise of women’s rights, as well as programs in favor of the development and progress of women.
