Hurricane Gert requires close monitoring

Tropical Storm Gert was upgraded to Hurricane Gert this morning. Hurricane Gert is the seventh hurricane to enter the Atlantic Basin. The hurricane season lasts through November, but August and September are the peak months in the Caribbean. Forecasters show it passing south of the DR, but its northwestern track puts in on a course that could threaten the island. While still a week’s time away from the DR, Hurricane Gert should be closely monitored by residents and travelers to the Caribbean.
