Taiwan to donate US$48.7 million to DR

El Siglo newspaper correspondent in Taiwan, Victor Manuel Tejada reports that the Taiwan government has committed to make donations totaling US$48.7 million to the DR within the next ten years. The money will benefit health, education, farming and forestry projects. The donations are as follows: US$15 million (five year disbursements of US$3 million per year) to equip public hospitals. US$10 million (10 year disbursements of US$1 million per year) for the construction of schools in rural areas and the nationwide literacy program. US$10 million (10 years of US$1 million per year) to finance university studies abroad of Dominican students. US$8.7 million (five years of disbursements of US$1,750,000 per year) for the Quisqueya Verde reforestation program. US$5 million (five year disbursements of US$1 million per year) for farm and rural projects, in coordination with the Banco Agrícola and non-governmental agencies. Taiwan also will be providing a US$10 million loan for the financing of small and medium-sized business.
