City government to raid privatizers of beaches

The legal department of the Municipality of Santo Domingo told those that have "privatized" the beaches of Santo Domingo, primarily Boca Chica beach, that they have 15 days to clear the beach. Dominican law establishes that 60 meter beach fronts are public property. Several small entrepreneurs have taken over the beaches, impeding the entrance of non-paying visitors. The municipality’s legal department was also critical of the taking over of beach fronts by hotel chains.
