President Leonel Fernández decorated Dominican pitcher Pedro Martínez with the order of Duarte, Sánchez and Mella, in the grade of "gran oficial". The star pitcher of the Boston Red Sox won the Cy Young award this year, after winning 23 games and only losing four. This was Martínez’s second consecutive Cy Young.
