DR is strong contender for 2003 Pan American Games

In an interview with Hoy newspaper, Dr. José Joaquín Puello, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee and leader of the campaign pro the hosting in Santo Domingo of the year 2003 Pan American Sports Games reaffirmed that the games will not cost the nation more than US$50 million. He said the games cost Puerto Rico US$37 million in 1979. He agreed that the villa to lodge the athletes and delegates could be built on the grounds of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, the state university where several sports events will be held at facilities being built there. He feels the DR has more sure votes than the other contending destinations, Guadalajara, Mexico and Medellín, Colombia. The decision will be made in Panama, in a meeting to be held December 5, 1998.
