Ready for privatizing

Antonio Isa Conde, director of the governmental enterprise privatization program, said that in January the commission for the Reform of Public Enterprise that he presides will begin offering diagnostics and proposals for the process of privatization of state enterprises. He said that once those studies are known, the conditions and form of private investment will be established. He foresees that the Corporación Dominicana de Electricidad, the state electricity utility, will be the first to undergo privatization. Privatization will next reach the Consejo Estatal del Azucar, the state sugar council that oversees the government-owned sugar mills. The process is expected to continue with other enterprises under the Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Estatales (CORDE).
