President Leonel Fernández almost made the Guinness Book of Records for a crash of a presidential vehicle. On Saturday, 29 November, the President’s car almost suffered a serious accident due to a dangerous sudden change in direction by its chauffeur. The President left the National Palace in his black jeep at around 1 pm. Preceding his vehicle were his two motorcycle escorts, another jeep and a vehicle with his bodyguards. The escort caravan turned as planned along the Avenida México and headed East. It appeared that at last minute, the President changed his mind and ordered the driver to turn west. The driver imprudently did so, and met a truck and a pickup that nearly missed smashing into the presidential vehicle. The presidential vehicle continued on rapidly, and the drivers of the truck and pickup stopped for a while to assimilate what had almost happened.
