Cuban-DR relations

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minou Tavarez Mirabal, said that the Dominican government will regularize the status of thousands of indocumented Cubans that have entered here prior to the signing of a migration agreement by both nations. She advised Cuban residents in the country to visit the Migration Department to start procedures that would regularize their status.She said that by the start of next year, consulates of both nations will be opened in La Habana and Santo Domingo. The Dominican consulate could be located at the residence where the Embassy of the Dominican Republic was previously located. In turn, the Dominican government is considering relocating the poor families that occupy what was the former Cuban Embassy, in a lovely house at Calle Santiago in the Gazcue area of the city of Santo Domingo.
