PRD postpones convention again

The Partido Revolucionario Dominicano convention, where the candidates to municipal and congressional positions would have been chosen on Sunday, 7 December, was postponed for the fifth time. The new date is Sunday, 14 December. Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez explained that discrepancies among the candidates and technical errors forced the postponement.The internal election is a confrontation of the different forces within the party, and principally focuses on the candidates for the position of mayor and senator for Santo Domingo. The candidates are José Antonio Najri and Milagros Ortíz Bosch as the principal contenders for the senatorial position. Miguel Vargas (with the support of Hatuey de Camps, secretary of the party), Julio Mariñez (with the support of Rafael Suberví, present mayor of the city), and Eligio Jáquez (with the support of presidential hopeful Hipólito Mejía).
