A bright Christmas?

Santo Domingo city residents felt considerable relief from blackouts on Thursday, 18 December, when Haina IV, that is expected to produce 75,000 kilowatt, kicked into the electricity grid of the Corporación Dominicana de Electricidad. The CDE also said that the San Pedro de Macorís turbogas plant is also on line now, producing 20 megawatts. The CDE has announced that as of Friday, 19 December, there will be less hours of blackouts. He also said that today, the Los Minas VI unit, which generates 105 megawatts, will be back on line. CDE says that the Smith-Enron plant increased its production to 175,000 kilowatts, following completion of repair works on the plant. Also, according to the CDE, the electricity situation could improve further thanks to the rains falling in areas where large hydroelectric dams are located.
