Press reports indicate there were record Christmas sales over the weekend. Christmas shopping was activated after over RD$2,000 million in Christmas bonuses entered into circulation. Avenida Duarte, Plaza Central, and other key shopping areas were mobbed with huge crowds out on shopping sprees. The vice president of the association of storeowners of the Avenida Duarte, Manolo Fernández, said that "everything" was selling.
