President Leonel Fernandez visited Los Illegales music group singer, José "Jayson" González, at his sick bed in the Universidad Central del Este. The singer suffered a vertebrae fracture that occasioned spinal cord paralysis after an accident last Saturday. His condition was worsened by the long time it took from the moment he was assisted and taken to the Darío Contreras public hospital to the moment when he was actually operated on, some 18 hours later at the UCE Medical Center. His physicians are not optimistic about his recovery. The President said that the government would collaborate if it was determined that sending him to a medical center in the United States could aid in the singer’s recovery. "It was a kind gesture of the President for which I am grateful," said Ramona Gonzalez, mother of Jayson. The unannounced visit would have gone unnoticed if it had not been for the presence of a journalist Jorge Jimenez, who is covering the situation for Hoy newspaper. At the time his visit, the singer’s physician was not present, and the President was informed of the situation by the nurses on staff. Dr. José Peña Gómez, leader of the PRD, earlier had shown an interest in the case and invited renown physician Angel Carrasco from Miami to Santo Domingo to comment on the case. The physician said the case had been correctly handled by his physicians at the UCE Medical Center and it was best to wait and not move the patient. Also showing concern has been Miami star singer Gloria Estefan, who called the artistic manager of the Illegales group, offering to help.
