Roof repair guaranteed for 20 years

The engineering firm of REM and Giscosa Caribe Impermeabilizaciones, which has been granted the contract to repair the 12,000 square meter roof of the Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, has guaranteed their work will last 20 years. The main basketball court of the country has been unsuccessfully repaired several times at a millionaire cost to the state. In a visit to the Listin Diario, engineer Nelson Morrison, president of REM, said his company is only awaiting the go-ahead of the Oficina Fiscalizadora de Obras del Estado to initiate the repair. He explained the Firestone brand material that will be used is the same as that used in the Capitolio of Cuba and the sports palace of Montjuic, site of the Olympic Games of Barcelona. The Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto was inaugurated in 1974 on occasion of the XII Central American and Caribbean Games.
