According to a report in the Listín Diario, Dominican rum sells for a higher price in Spain than many better known brand liquors. The report indicates that a bottle of Dewars White Label whisky sells for $1,140 pesetas, Cutty Sark whisky, $1,189 pesetas, Torre 10 brandy, $1,040, while Dominican-made Barcelo Añejo rum sells for $1,299 pesetas. The Listín Diario says that the rum is regarded up there with a bottle of Baron Philippe de Rothschild wine or a bottle of 15-year-old Johnny Walker whisky. The newspaper is speculating as to what price Barceló’s premium rum, Barceló Imperial, would fetch once introduced in Spain.
