As of last year, and per law 139-97, holidays that fall on a Tuesday or Wednesday will be celebrated on the previous Monday, and those that fall on Thursday or Friday will be celebrated on the following Monday, with the exception of religious holidays. Also note that there is the general custom of not working as of noon on Good Thursday during Holy Week, and as of noon on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. April Friday, 10 April. Good Friday. May Monday, 4 May, will commemorate Labor Day, which falls on 1 May. June Thursday, 11 June, Corpus Christi. August Sunday, 16 August, commemorating the restoration of independence from Spain. September Thursday, 24 September. Commemorating the Day of the Virgen de las Mercedes, patron saint of the Dominican Republic. November Monday, 9 November commemorating the Day of the First Constitution, which falls on Friday 6.December Friday, 25 December, Christmas Day.
