Rafael Suberví Bonilla, mayor of Santo Domingo, and one of the most prominent Partido Revolucionario Dominicano politicians, complained that sectors of the party want to keep him away from the leader of the party, Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez. Suberví endorsed the candidacy of Luis Mariñez for the post of PRD candidate in the Santo Domingo municipal elections. Peña Gómez has favored the celebration of a new primary to choose the candidate. This is disputed by Suberví and Mariñez who say the commission that investigated the primary conceded that Mariñez won. Press reports indicate that Suberví Bonilla and Hipólito Mejía, another presidential hopeful of the PRD who endorsed a different candidate for mayor, met with Dr. Peña Gómez at his home in Cambita yesterday.
