What goes through a man’s head to murder his son and then commit suicide angered by a recent divorce? The end of the year celebrations were tainted by the sad note of the death of eight year old Joem Burgos, found drowned in the Nizao River on 29 December. His father’s body was recovered from the Caribbean Sea. An explanatory letter left by 44-year old Jose Rafael Burgos to his former wife Emilia Badia, states: "I will take your dreams… you will remember me for the rest of your life." Emilia Badia lived with her son and 13 year old daughter at Calle Juan Alejandro Ibarra, Ensanche Kennedy. Their 13 year old daughter, Adeline, could only repeat, "my father cannot be so bad, he did not do that." Friends and family said that Burgos never accepted his wife’s decision and made threats of violence towards the children and herself, but the family never dreamed he would go so far. The father had appealed to court and won the right to spend the weekends and half of the Christmas vacation with his children. Daughter Adeline had refused to go with her father for the Christmas vacation.
