El Siglo newspaper reports that 89 mammals have just arrived at the Santo Domingo Zoo from Oklahoma, Florida and Texas. Among the newcomers are antelopes, buffalos, elands, llamas, and zebras. For the childrens area of the zoo, muntajaks, deer, a miniature cattle breed, baby goats and miniature sheep have arrived. At the end of June, another 50 mammals are expected. Then the zoo will concentrate on acquiring new birds for its collection. (29 May 2001)
