Four Dominicans make Marlboro Adventure Team

Four people from the Dominican Republic, eight from Mexico, two from Venezuela, two from Paraguay and two from Israel made the finals of the Marlboro Adventure Team. The trials were held in Rancho Baiguate in Jarabacoa, about 100 kilometers from Santo Domingo. Competitors had to compete in jeeping, enduro motorbike racing, rafting, rapelling, four wheel bike riding, and other survival events. One of the rapelling events called for descending by rope 52 meters down Jimenoa Falls. The Dominican representatives in the event will be Juan Francisco Perez, Ivan Ernesto Gomez, Roger Jover Rivera and Loreley Sainz. It will take place 15 September to 11 October in Utah. It will bring together 47 participants from Czechoslovakia, Romania, Switzerland, Israel, Uruguay, Mexico, DR, Poland, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Venezuela, El Salvador and Paraguay. The contenders were chosen for their excellent physical condition, good sense of humor and problem-solving ability. (16 August 2001)
