American Eagle concession violates CAB law

The president of Grupo Servicios Aereos Profesionales, which owns Air Santo Domingo, has criticized the Civil Aviation Board (CAB) for allowing American Eagle to fly into Herrera Airport. Until then, Air Santo Domingo was the only airline to fly into Herrera and so had an advantage over American Eagle as thousands of travellers preferred the inner city airport to landing at Las Americas. Jose Miguel, president of the Grupo SAP, said the concession was granted by the CAB in violation of civil aviation law. He says the CAB did not call a public hearing and did not notify American Eagle’s competitors. In a letter to the Civil Aviation Board, Miguel denounces what he calls unchecked expansion and the continuing monopoly of American Airlines that continues to deter the development of national airlines.
