El Caribe reports that the uncertainty of a conflict is the main reason for the cancellation of travel plans. One Spaniard who cancelled his travel plans, Jorge Diaz, of Madrid, explains, “I am not scared that they would bomb Santo Domingo or anything like that. What I do not want is to be stuck. What would I do if there is a big mess and I cannot get back to work in two months?”
This has also caused people to cancel their trips to the US. Luz Diaz Bernal, in charge of public relations for Iberia, says that she does not believe DR will have problems because one does not have to fly over US territory to get from Europe to the DR. (25 September 2001)
