Protesting high fares on AA

The Dominican consul in New York has protested the high cost of travel to the Dominican Republic on American Airlines. As reported in El Caribe, Luis Eludis Perez called it “abusive” that the airline charges US$600 for an economy ticket to the DR while it sells a round trip to Japan for US$605, and New York-Honolulu goes for US$630. He attributes the high fares to the virtual monopoly the airline has on the New York-Santo Domingo route. AA routes to the DR are said to be the company’s most profitable. (5 October 2001)
