It?s good news for the Dominican Republic: Lan Dominicana, the LanChile affiliate, has received clearance from the Department of Transportation (DOT) of the United States to engage in scheduled foreign air transportation of passengers, property and mail cargo between Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, DR, and Miami and New York. The airline was also cleared to fly between Santo Domingo and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The permission limits Lan Dominicana to conduct these services only by wet-leasing aircraft from Lan Chile. The DOT approved the authority granted for 1 April 2003 to 1 April 2004, on grounds of the bilateral agreement between the United States and the Dominican Republic.
