DATE 2004 to be held in Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata has accepted the challenge to host DATE in April 2004. The event will take place at convention facilities that will be shared by the Iberostar Costa Dorada and the Coral by Hilton Marien resorts, a short distance from Playa Dorada. Upon making the announcement, Johnny Bernal, president of the Hotel Association (Asonahores) and Hans Dannenberg, director of the Puerto Plata Hotels Association said the event will serve to showcase the old and new attractions of the North Coast, where tourism first started in the Dominican Republic. Visitors will be able to tour the historic heritage of the city of Puerto Plata, and partake in numerous excursions to enjoy natural attractions within close driving distance. Delegates to the leading event to sell Dominican vacations will be able to see firsthand the many reasons for the new Puerto Plata slogan: ?Don?t settle for just a tan.?
For the delegates arrangements will be made for visits to the kite surfing and board sailing facilities in Cabarete, plus restaurant stopping in Cabarete and Sosua, the Columbus Waterpark, the skylift to the Isabel de Torres Mountain, the Amber Museum, and the 16th Century San Felipe Fort.
New in the area is the Ocean World, the new water park, that once fully operational later this year, will be the largest in the Caribbean. Seals, dolphins, sharks and a great variety of sea creatures and fishes will be exhibited in the US$25 million Cofres?-based park.
