Roberto Casoni, of the Puerto Plata hotel chain VHHR, is another flag-bearer of
the new ?window open to the sea, door open to the community? philosophy
embracing Puerto Plata today, and launched to the international and national
press at the Dominican Annual Travel Exchange meeting in late April. The country
needs new hoteliers that help the community; our guests want to go out and share
with the people, said Casoni at DATE.
VHHR, a family-owned hotel company, announced the opening late this summer of
the 51-suites Casa Colonial, the first non-all inclusive hotel of Playa Dorada,
a boutique hotel. To attract Puerto Plata?s community, the hotel will have a
lobby piano bar open to the general public. The lobby of the hotel will feature
high-speed wireless internet access.
The hotel promises to be something
special, with spa-like bathrooms with Kohler fixtures. The hotel will be the
first to offer a pillow menu, where guests can choose soft, feather or firm
pillows. A pool and four Jacuzzis will be located on the top floor, overlooking
the ocean. An international spa with 8,000 sq. feet will be on the premises.
Casoni explains, ?We want to sell the
North Coast, there are so many good restaurants, we want people to go to see
Sosua and Cabarete to have a complete vacation experience. We are thinking
quality, and seek the top-paying clientele.? The targets are the upscale client,
the spa fan, business executives traveling alone or with family, weddings and
honeymooners. The company is betting on pleasing their guests with special
dishes prepared by their recently-hired Austrian chef who hails from having
worked with Orient Express hotels and Leading Hotels of the World properties in
Salzburg, Malaysia, Bahamas and Cura?ao. A soft opening is planned for this
summer and formal opening for the December 2004.
