According to the airport?s management, an average of 4,500 people arrive daily, or about 120,000 a month. For year?s end, the airport is expected to break the 1.4-million mark of arrivals, up from 1,291,964 arrivals in 2003. The Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) serves the 24 hotels located in the East Coast regions of Punta Cana, Bavaro, Cabeza de Toro, El Cortecito, Arena Gorda, Uvero Alto, and Macao. Around 22,000 hotel rooms exist in the area. The airport was expanded last year at a cost of US$10 million, including the construction of a new 2,800-square meter air-conditioned terminal.
