Dominican-origin Hollywood starlet Zoe Saldana is currently in the DR to star in a Dominican film, the low-budget romantic comedy La maldicion del padre Cardona, written and produced by Felix German. Saldana, who has never been part of a Dominican production before, is known for her performances in the films Pirates of the Caribbean (2003), Crossroads (2002), Drumline (2002), Snipes (2002) and Center Stage (2000). Her most recent cinematic appearance cast her alongside Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Steven Spielberg’s latest film The Terminal. Of working in the DR, the 26-year-old actress and accomplished dancer told El Caribe that what she most likes is the dignified projection of the Dominican community. She said she would help in the international promotion of the Felix German film.
In addition to the current production, Saldana said she was also working on Guess Who, a comedy that will feature Ashton Kutcher and Bernie Mac and scheduled for release in March 2005.
Among future plans, Saldana says she would like to write a movie script.
