Pinero Group bets on Samana

Counting on the slated November 2006 opening of the El Catey, Samana airport, the Grupo Pinero that operates the Bahia Principe brand in the Dominican Republic has announced it is making a US$60 million investment to purchase and remodel four hotels in Samana, with 900 rooms. The Spanish chain already operates the Bahia Principe in Rio San Juan, and a large resort complex in Punta Cana. The Spanish hotel group announced that it is building a 191-luxury hotel in Cayo Levantado, after having secured rights to the island for 50 years with the Dominican government. The Gran Bahia Principe Cayacoa, on top the hill overlooking Samana, will offer 223 newly renovated rooms. The Gran Bahia Principe Samana, formerly the Gran Bahia, will offer 103 rooms. The latest adquisition of the group, is the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo in Las Terrenas.
