Tourism Minister Felix Jimenez, who accompanied President Leonel Fernandez on his visit to London, announced that the President has allocated an additional US$5 million this year for international promotion of the Dominican Republic as a tourist destination. He said this would bring the budget for international promotion to US$27 million this year. According to the minister, the additional funding comes after President Fernandez met with British investors and tour operators. “This will make it possible for us to run a more aggressive campaign,” said Fernandez. Of the US$5 million, he said that US$3.5 million would be used for promotion in the United States and Canada, and the remaining US$1.5 would be allotted to promotions in Europe and Latin America.
