Baseball schedules

Baseball fans visiting the DR should combine spending a night in cities with baseball parks. Best for catching the professional winter baseball league action are the cities of Santo Domingo (Estadio Quisqueya, home club for Licey and Escogido), Santiago (Estadio Cibao, home club to Aguilas), La Romana (Estadio Micheli, home club to the Azucareros) and Juan Dolio (San Pedro de Macoris? Estadio Tetelo Vargas, home club to the Estrellas).

Because there are two teams in Santo Domingo, this is where games are most frequently held. Tourists staying in Punta Cana and Puerto Plata could befriend a taxi driver, take him to the ball game, make sure he has no more than a beer, and then return safely with your friend-taxi. A better option would be to overnight in Santo Domingo or Santiago, and catch the action without having to travel back late at night. Arrangements can be made with the taxi driver who took you to the stadium, to wait for you at one point to bring you back to your hotel in the city. Come January, several active Major League Baseball Dominican players will join their Dominican teams. This year, the Caribbean Series will take place in Santiago.
