Port traffic expected to double

Operators of the Santo Domingo Port are expecting visitation on board cruiseships to the capital city port this year to double that arriving in the 2008-2009 season. For the 2009-2010 cruise season arrivals of around 150,000 passengers are expected.

Luis Molina, executive director of the Sans Souci Ports company that operates the port, said that last season 43 ships docked at the Port of Santo Domingo, proving its capacity and efficiency at world class standards. But this year they expect this to double to 80 ships.

The Port is able to handle two ships simultaneously at its east and west terminals.

The Santo Domingo Port provides easy access to the Colonial City monuments on the west side and the the attractions of the Columbus Lighthouse, Santo Domingo Aquarium and Three Eyes Cave and Boca Chica beach on the east side.
