Puntacana Resort & Club executives will be recognized in an award ceremony in New York for their education programs later this month at the Conde Nast Traveler World Savers Congress. The Punta Cana development pioneers won the prestigious Conde Nast Traveler World Savers Award.
“Despite these challenging economic times, corporate social responsibility is as important as ever,” editor-in chief Klara Glowczewska says. The awards honor travel companies around the world for their leadership in social responsibility in five key areas: poverty alleviation, cultural and/or environmental preservation, education programs, wildlife conservation and health initiatives. “Sustainable travel has gone mainstream,” says the magazine editor.
The Puntacana Group sponsors public and private schools in Punta Cana, on the East Coast. The Puntacana International School opened in 2000 to offer private bilingual education. The company also sponsors the Ann and Ted Kheel Polytechnical School, a public middle school, with model education for 300 students from the communities of Veron, Bavaro, Cortecito and Cabeza de Toro in the Punta Cana area. Both schools were created to serve the children of company workers, but are also open to the residents in the area.
