2011 began with the New Year?s Eve/New Year?s long weekend. But the good news for many is that there are two more long weekends coming up this January.
This year?s Three King?s Day, which in the DR marks the end of the Christmas holidays, will be celebrated on Monday, 10 January. That means, children will receive their late gifts on 6 January, but will have extra time to play with them as schools wont reopen until the 11th or 12th of January.
And then, to commemorate the protector Virgin Mary of the Dominican Republic, the Virgen de la Altagracia, Dominicans will get Friday, 21 January off, but also Monday, 24 January that celebrates the birthday of Juan Pablo Duarte, the founding father of the Dominican nationality.
