Caribbean Fantasy resumes ferry service from Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic this coming 16 March. The cruise is operated by America Cruise Ferries, a French, Mexican and Dominican company. The ferry replaces the Caribbean Ferries that provided the service until its suspension in June 2010.
The new ferry has capacity to transport 1,100 passengers and a combination of 165 freight containers and 70 vehicles.
This is an eight-hour trip. The Caribbean Fantasy will depart from the Pan-American terminal in San Juan every Monday at 8am. On Wednesdays and Fridays it will depart from Mayaguez at 9pm.
It will arrive in Santo Domingo on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It will depart to San Juan every Thursday and on Sundays to Mayaguez.
The introductory rates are US$169 for departures from Mayaguez and US$189 for departures from San Juan.
Ferries del Caribe, its predecessor, transported 230,000 passengers from 2008 to 2009, and 271,000 passengers from 2009 to 2010.
