The governments of Portugal and the Dominican Republic have renewed their previous agreement signed in 1995, allowing free access to both countries’ airports. The Air Services Agreement replaces the Agreement of 14 February 1995 and will allow for a more flexible approach to the needs of today’s market. The new agreement frees up access to Dominican airports and will allow unlimited use of any destination in the Dominican Republic, either directly from Portugal or through third countries. According to Listin Diario, once the paperwork is finished the agreement goes into effect it will cover charter as well as regular airline services. Both TAP as well as White Airways said that they were anxious to start regular services to the Dominican Republic.
